1) In task one you were asked to to think about why Gilman wrote the short story. Now you will read an article of Gilman's called "Why I wrote 'The Yellow Wallpaper'". Compare your answer to what Gilman says. Does this help to explain any particular aspect of the story? (Hint: Voice)
2) Okay, now that you have read the story and you have the background information. It is time to re-read the story. It is always best to read things twice if you have the time. Of course I wouldn't make you re-read it all by yourself again. I have provided you with a little help. Click on the picture to listen to the sound recording of the short story. (Why didn't I just give you that in the first place you ask.Well you wouldn't of completed all of your excellent investigations by yourself or used your own wonderful imaginations). Take notes on the difference between the text and the audio version. Did it sound the way you imagined it? Why? Why not? (This must be handed in at the end of task two.)
Remember the routine with the questions from task one. Well here goes some more questions for you to answer.Again, go to submit your answers on Juno.
1) What role does the wallpaper play in the narrator's disintegration?
2)Why isn't the narrator given a name?
3)Who is the woman behind the yellow wallpaper? Why does she creep about the yard and garden at night?
